July 29-Aug 2

mission-and-vision-statementHello McMiilin Community! Well the first week of the school year started off fantastically and on behalf of my entire staff we’d like to thank you for your support. This weeks blog will focus on our school Mission and Vision.

Our Mission

Our school mission, based on individual differences, is to provide a quality education for all children in a safe, secure, and positive environment. Through basic skills and good work habits, children develop a strong self-concept and sense of responsibility. This ensures their being a productive member of society

Our Vision & Values

McMillin School shares the district’s vision for our local learning community.  McMillin is committed to providing a safe, nurturing environment for all of our children.
Our children are creative, thinking high-achievers, confident in their own abilities.  They are committed to life long learning and responsible citizenship.  They are unique individuals who take pride in developing their own full potential.  Our diversity gives us strength and promotes equity for all.  Our learning environment is based on high expectations and clear standards.  Families, school, and community work together to benefit all children which fosters respect for one another.
We embrace a rapidly changing world and look to our community and district for support.  Students are provided the tools and strategies to become self-sufficient and technologically proficient, accessing information from all over the world.  Students are motivated to meet high academic standards, which include art, drama, and physical fitness.  Students appreciate all cultures and languages and do not take note of individuals’ economic status.
We look forward to the future with hope and confidence.

We hope this helps you get to know our school a little bit more and we hope to see you at the school often. Your involvement in your child’s education is a critical component in their success and we intend to do everything possible to help you be part of our school! One of the first ways to be involved is to attend our McMillin school kickoff on August 18 at the San Diego Padres game. Prior to the game McMillin’s staff will be hosting a tailgate starting at 11:30 am (game starts at 1:10 pm). Click here for a flyer with more info. Order forms for the tickets will be sent home this week .

Once again thank you for a great start and I wish you and even better school year!

Welcome Back 2013

welcome-back-to-school-sign-580x444I’d like to begin by welcoming back all of our returning families, as well as all of our new families.  I hope you all had a fantastic summer break and are ready to come back to school. Our staff is looking forward to a new and promising year and we can’t wait to begin working with your children!

I’d also like to take a moment to introduce three new staff members: Jennifer Morales (5th grade), Keri Shenk (1st grade), and Mike Marshall (school psychologist) join our staff and we look forward to their contribution. As you’ll soon see, we also had some changes in teacher grade levels. Moving to our TK classes are Ms. McGinty and Mr. Lohner, Mrs. Adamos is now one of our 1st grade teachers, and Mrs. Castillo returns to 2nd grade. Every year changes are inevitable, but regardless we will always strive to provide our students with the most effective instruction possible. Aside from changes in staff, the most significant change of the year will be in our standards. This year our school District will be implementing the new Common Core State Standards. For more background please click here. You’ll be getting a lot more information on the CCSS throughout the year!

I hope you visit my blog regularly as I hope to update it each week with all the “going-on’s” here at McMillin. I can also share a little secret with you and that is that soon we will have an app for your “smart” phones and tablets where you will have access to lots of great information about our school. We hope for this to be up and ready within the first few weeks of school! These forms of communicating with you, our amazing McMillin community, will allow us to save a tremendous amount of money in printing and paper cost, but most importantly puts key information you need at your fingertips 24/7!

So much to look forward to….I can’t wait!! See you all soon 🙂

Principal
