trafficsignblogpicGood Afternoon Everyone,

I wanted to let all of you know that each year we take a look at how to improve traffic at McMillin, especially our after school pick up. To give you a little history, in the 5 years that I’ve served this community as principal we have conducted various community meetings, asked the CVPD to give suggestions, had parent volunteers help, and spoke to the city’s planners, all in an effort to improve the flow of traffic. As a result, we’ve been able to limit the majority of the congestion to the first 10 min after school let’s out, but it’s obviously still a challenge. The challenge is especially taxing for those individuals that are not coming to pick up a student, but instead are only coming into the neighborhood.

The two biggest problems are:

  1. Once the pick-up lane in front of the school stops flowing, cars back up all the way down Santa Cora into E. Palomar.
  2. There is only one way in and out from the school and when traffic gets backed up going southbound on Santa Cora, cars exiting the school can’t make the left to merge onto Santa Cora.

Over the next few weeks I will continue to look for ways to keep traffic moving and limit the frustration we all feel. I respectfully ask that as we continue to look for solutions, please continue to follow all traffic rules and show courtesy to other car drivers and pedestrians. I also want to encourage as many as possible to take advantage of your proximity to our school and walk, ride your bike, scooter or skateboard. Not only is it great exercise, but its the least stressful way to deal with traffic. Thank you for your support.

byodHappy Monday Everyone! All of us here at McMillin continue to thank you for making the start of the school year a great one. As we continue forward, you’ll begin to hear your children talking more and more about how they’re using technology at school and at home. One of the big things happening at McMillin this year is the District BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program. This program will allow student to bring their own iPads, Android devices, laptops, etc. These devices will then be used for the various activities assigned by the teachers. The link here will show you the permission slip that must be returned before students can begin to bring their devices. BYOD Form – Personal Device

6th grade Fundraiser-Project Pie
Please consider supporting our McMillin 6th graders in raising funds for the various 6th grade activities this year. The even will be on Wednesday August 13th. Project Pie

Coffee with the Principal
Each quarter I like to have an opportunity to share information about what’s happening at McMillin and on August 14 at 8:15 am (right after the morning bell rings) I’ll have my first Coffee with the Principal. Please stop by our auditorium for a cup of coffee and an opportunity to learn more about how we are supporting your children.

School Drop-Off and Pick Up

09SafetySigns_StopLook_Project1Hi Everyone,

You may have noticed that our CVPD was here at the school this morning helping to ensure our students were safe during our morning drop-off. Unfortunately a few tickets were handed out with many more warnings. It’s imperative that all McMillin families follow all traffic rules including no drop-off’s at RED CURBS. There is only one school area designated for drop-off’s and pickup’s and that is directly in front of the school. Please make sure to use the 2nd parking lot entrance, since the first is designated for school bus and school employees ONLY.

We also ask that you please be courteous to school neighbors and not park or block in front of their driveways. As always we encourage students to walk, ride their bike, scooter, or skateboard and if possible to come to school in a group. Thank you for your support.

Aug 4-Aug 8

San_diego_padres_logo-1Hello McMillin Families! This is a important week as the deadline to purchase your tickets for the McMillin School Year Kickoff at the Padre Game is on Friday, Aug 8th. In order to sit with the rest of the McMillin group, tickets (sections 300 & 301) will need to be preordered ($20). Remember each ticket includes entrance to the game and a meal consisting of a hot dog or burger (grilled to order by yours truly), chips, and a drink. All of this will happen during our tailgate which starts at 11:45 am. We’ll have music and raffle prizes so make sure be there early to enjoy the festivities. Padre Kickoff

School Site Council
On Wed Aug. 6th our School Site Council will be meeting for the first time this year. Next week you can look forward to your opportunity to join this critically important committee. Each year the Council consisting of administration, teachers and parents meets once a month to discuss school goals/progress and budget. Parents serve a 2 year term and are invaluable in our decision making process. Please consider placing your name on the ballot for this year’s vote. More information on this topic will be sent home this week.
