Achieve 3000 Parent Night

Acheive

Dear 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade Parent/Guardians,

Last night McMillin had an Achieve 3000 parent night that was a huge success. If you did not make it to the meeting, letters will be going home on how to log into your child’s information.

This program is an online reading program that reaches every student at his or her own level. Throughout the week, your child receives reading and writing materials that are not too easy or too difficult but are at just the right level to help increase literacy skills.

Achieve3000’s Home Edition – available anytime, anywhere – helps you stay in touch with your child’s in-school progress on KidBiz. Your involvement can go a long way in helping your child perform even better at school.

It’s easy to get started with your FREE Home Edition account – and it takes just a minute! Your child’s school has already paid for your account. To sign up, just follow these instructions that will be sent home today.

Thank you

Beyond Awareness at McMillin This Thursday

In July 2010, President Barack Obama welcomed people from all over the United States to the White House in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, a law that grants rights to people with disabilities. Before the law was passed 20 years ago, people with disabilities didn’t have access to and choices in education, health care, employment, transportation, and other things that help make everyone’s life great.

On this day, we will be learning a little about the struggles that people with disabilities have to overcome in their daily lives, not as a result of their disability, but as a result of the people and environments around them. Our goal is to help all of us at McMillin be aware of what we should and should not do so that we can be of support to our friends and community members with disabilities.

We will meet some people who will share a little about themselves and the many activities they do. We will also learn why the Americans with Disabilities Act is so important in our history from some of our very own McMillin students. Over this next month as you listen and learn, think about how you can monitor your words and actions to better demonstrate respect for ALL people, the McMillin Way.

Beyond Awareness Distinctions for Student

The Day includes:

  1. 4 stations with presenters
  2. Speakers to come to classrooms to speak
  3. Modified vehicle tours
  4. Diversity Library Collection: This will be out on the lawn under canopies and on blankets.

WE NEED:

  1. Canopies, beach chairs, beach blankets and towels, beach umbrellas. Can anyone bring to use on Thursday?
  2. Master decorators to make the auditorium and lawn look festive. Anyone want to hang balloons and streamers on Thursday morning?

Rainy Days in the Morning

The McMillin Safety Committee met yesterday and decided on a procedure for Rainy mornings.

Students will be lining up in front of their classes under the eaves or covered walkways. Teachers will be asked to open their doors as early as possible to make sure that the students are out of the weather.

Because weather is not an easy thing to predict, we will have someone in place to direct students  off the blacktop and under the protection of the buildings.

Thank you for your patience with this matter.
