Online Learning Process to Gather Your Thoughts and Ideas

Last year, we invited our community members to share their thoughts about what we were doing well and where we could improve. We used Thoughtexchange to assist our efforts in reaching more people. Thoughtexchange’s group insight software and services allow communities to have meaningful and productive online conversations. The open-ended process ensures everyone can contribute, everyone learns from one another, and important ideas emerge. This February, get ready to Share your Thoughts via Thoughtexchange again, to help us better understand what is important to you. This process enables us to hear your ideas, and learn about priorities. There are three steps that you will be invited to participate in starting on February 6:

  1. Share – answer open-ended questions about education in our schools
  2. Star – review ideas from other stakeholders and star the ideas you like best
  3. Discover – learn what is important to the community as a whole

Look for an email invitation on February 6 to participate in the survey. If you do not receive an email, a link to participate will be on our website: www.cvesd.org Thanks in advance for your participation. We look forward to hearing your ideas!

What’s an LCAP?

The state’s Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) replaced California’s finance system for K-12 schools. This change meant that school districts like ours receive additional funding based on the number of low-income, English learner, and foster youth we serve. As a result, school districts are required to produce a Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), a three-year plan which demonstrates how increased resources are linked to meeting the needs of all students. In tandem, the funding formula and the LCAP increase local decision-making authority while enhancing transparency and accountability. Parents, teachers, and students help determine LCAP priorities in support of student achievement.

LCAP Target: Ensure Every Student in Grades 3-6 Has Own Technology Device

As part of the District’s LCAP-funded one-to-one technology initiative, more than
$3.5 million was allocated to purchase and distribute Lenovo devices so that by 2017-18 all students in grades 3-6 will have their own device to integrate technology throughout the school day. This year alone, $1.4 million was allocated toward technology through our LCAP. In addition, $460,666 was allocated to hire additional Technology Equipment Technicians to support each District school with infrastructure, wireless, hardware, and software needs. Learn how our Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) helps meet student needs by clicking the link that follows: http://www.cvesd.org/DISTRICT/Pages/LCFF.aspx

CVESD’s Annual Notice of Physical Education Requirements

Our District focuses on providing the highest quality educational experience for all students. Evidence of that commitment is a high quality physical education (P.E.) program in our schools. Per California Education Code 51210(g), first through sixth grade teachers are required to teach 200 minutes of physical education over 10 instructional days. It is at the discretion of the school as to how and when these minutes are distributed over this time frame. We want to reassure you that student health and wellness are a priority in our schools.

Relay for Life- Collecting Dimes

Dear McMillin Family,

Have you or anyone you know ever been affected by cancer?

We all know someone who has been touched by cancer, someone who is fighting the battle now, or who has lost the battle to this disease.

There is something amazing happening in our community! It’s Relay for Life and you can be a part of this wonderful event. If you have ever wondered how you can make a difference, then please join us in our efforts to support the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

Did you know that a 12oz water bottle holds $100 worth of dimes?

McMillin Elementary will be collecting dimes over a two-week period and donating the proceeds to the American Cancer Society for Cancer Research.

To participate, start collecting dimes and send them with your child to be deposited in the special classroom water bottles that the PTA is providing to each class.

The fundraising event will be held at McMillin Elementary from February 1, 2017 through February 14, 2017.

Relay for Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated. The American Cancer Society would not be successful without the help of generous donors and volunteers. Because of you, they will be able to help thousands of people across the globe with life-saving cancer research studies, crucial patient care programs, and education and prevention initiatives. That’s why it’s so important to get involved in Relay For Life and fundraise-because when you do, you help save lives.

Every dime counts!

Together We Can Make a Difference,

McMillin PTA

McMillin’s Kindness Challenge

McMillin is in the midst of our Kindness Challenge.  Under the leadership of our Student Council, we are striving to promote acts of kindness with the goal of making our school and community a place where we all feel valued and welcomed.

For the first week of our Kindness Challenge, students have been encouraged to make a conscious effort to be kind to one another.  We have noticed students going out of their way to say good morning, to ask how our days were, and to express their gratitude towards each other.  These acts of kindness have been acknowledged during our morning announcements with our “McMillin Kindness Shout Outs”

For the upcoming week, our Student Council is planning three spirit days where we promote the idea of being kind to each other and our community.

Wednesday- “Peace, Love, and Kindness Day”  Students are encouraged to dress like a hippie to promote the idea of peace and love.

Thursday- “Mix It Up Day”- During lunch, students will have the opportunity to sit with students from their grade level, or one grade level above or below, that they normally don’t sit with.  Student council will be making conversation frames to help guide conversations and to promote the idea of making new friends.
