Read Across America – Book Fair at Barnes and Noble

Hello McMillin Parents!

McMillin Elementary will be celebrating “Read Across America” next week March 6 – 10th!

There will be some events that we will be hosting and will need some volunteers to help with!

For the entire week, we will be hosting a book fair AT Barnes and Noble in Otay Ranch.  Parents and students will be able to purchase anything from Barnes and Noble and the Cafe during the week and use a coupon code for purchases to count towards our school book fair.  More information will be coming with our book fair code.

We will also be hosting TWO evening events on-site at Barnes and Noble for parents and students to come and participate.  There will be lego building, cookie decorating (cookies are purchased at the cafe), a scavenger hunt, and read aloud opportunities!   The PTA is looking for Parent Volunteers to help on either Tuesday or Thursday evening (March 7th and 9th).

Also, we will be reading in classrooms on Friday morning, March 10th!  We are looking for parents or grandparents to come and read in classrooms on Friday morning.  We will meet after drop-off at 8:15.  Classroom reading times will begin at either 8:30 or 8:45 for about 15-minute time slots.  We welcome anytime you are able to volunteer.  If you are interested in a specific classroom or time….please email Marrilee Boldt with your requests.  mmboldt2@gmail.com   Please bring a book or two of your choice.  Books will also be available for you to borrow.

We need YOU to make these events successful.  If you are able to volunteer anytime, please email Marrilee Boldt at mmboldt2@gmail.com

Thank you!!!

McMillin This Week

Thank you, Ms. Carson, for bringing Ability Awareness to McMillin. She has been hosting this event for maybe close to 12 years. Students at McMillin learned a little about the struggles that people with disabilities have to overcome in their daily lives, not as a result of their disability, but as a result of the people and environments around them. The goal was to help all of us at McMillin be aware of what we should and should not do so that we can be of support to our friends and community members with disabilities.

We met some people who shared a little about themselves and the many activities they do. We learned why the Americans with Disabilities Act is so important in our history from some of our very own McMillin students. Students learned to think about how they can monitor their own words and actions to better demonstrate respect for ALL people, the McMillin Way.

We are looking for parent feedback about McMillin. The top 3 schools will each receive a $600 contribution for their site! This money will be available to use towards books, 6thgrade camp, materials, technology tools, etc.

Parent Feedback – Please

Great news! The CVESD is having an incentive for our top 3 schools with the highest percentage of participation during our Thoughtexchange Share phase. To make it fair the participation percentages will be based on each school’s student enrollment.  For example, a school with 500 students that has 250 parents and staff participate would have a 50% participation rate.

The top 3 schools will each receive a $600 contribution for their site! This money will be available to use towards books, 6th grade camp, materials, technology tools, etc.

  • Parents that do not receive the invitation email can register on our district website (www. cvesd.org) or they can also go directly to the following links:

Thank you for your thoughts,
