McMillin Basketball

basketballBasketball season is here for McMillin! Once again our fantastic students are being led by Mr. Barnes in another quest towards a championship. We hope you have a chance to come out on Tuesday’s to watch our students compete!

Community Watch

Unfortunately, we seem to be attracting quite a few trespassers over the weekends and we need your help. These trespassers are climbing the building roofs and potentially causing problems such as destroying air conditioning and posting graffiti. If you see people on campus during the weekend, in areas that don’t appear to be designated for their use please call the police.

Speech Contest 2014

As usual our speech contest participants were awesome! As in year’s past one winner from each grade level was selected by our prestigious judges. This year our judges were from Subway, The San Diego Padres, and our neighbors Calvary Christian School. They had a tough time selecting the best of the best, but eventually they did come to an agreement. Halsey D., Jacob U., and Kathleen G. will be representing 4th, 5th, and 6th grade at the upcoming District level contest! Check out what our 3rd graders are doing!:
The Read to Feed program encourages reading, while heightening students’ awareness that their actions make a difference in the lives of others. As students read more books, they improve their reading abilities and more families receive gifts of livestock and training.

Support Your Community

YMCAOur South Bay Family YMCA makes strengthening our community our cause. By providing quality programs that encourage youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, we enable all people to be strong in spirit, mind and body.

For 53 years, thousands have turned to our South Bay Family YMCA for programs and services. We have been the reliable, friendly non-profit that community members know and trust.

1 out of 5 families at our Y cannot afford membership or program fees. They benefit from scholarships provided by generous members and donors like YOU who help them be more healthy, confident, connected and secure.

94 cents of every dollar invested in our Y goes back into programs and assistance for local south bay families.
I hope you consider donating to this great cause. Please click on the YMCA image above to donate. Thank you.

iguardian_teamHappy Monday! This will be another great week at McMillin.

This weeks events start with a Cyber Safety Parent meeting, Monday at 6 pm. This PTA sponsored event will inform parents  about internet child safety, dangers of communicating online and prevention. Please come out and join the Cyber Crimes Division and the Department of Homeland Security for their presentation on iGuardian Outreach.

On Tuesday we will be conducting our quarterly full emergency drill. This will include a fire, earthquake and lockdown drill. This important exercise prepares our staff and student in the unfortunate circumstance that we will need to put it into action. To learn more about our safety procedures feel free to come by our office to review a copy of our safety plan.

Happy-Presidents-DayIn honor of Presidents weekend Thursday, Feb. 13th will be a early dismissal day. Students will be dismissed at 1:15 pm. We will also have Friday (14th) and Monday (17th) off as vacation days. Enjoy!
