Registration for New Students

Registration for new students for the upcoming 2018/2019 school year will begin on February 21, 2018.  Packets will be available in the school office beginning February 7th. If your child is currently a McMillin student there is no need to re-register.  You will simply complete your Residency Verification in May in order to re-enroll your child/children for the upcoming school year (more information will be sent out in April regarding Residency Verification).

If your student/s is currently attending McMillin on a zone transfer, you will need to visit the school office between February 7th and February 14th to complete a new zone transfer for the 2018/2019 school year.  All students attending McMillin on a zone transfer in the Transitional Kindergarten program must enroll their student/s at their home school beginning February 21, 2018.

Please feel free to call the school office if you should have any questions.

Kindness Storm Passing Through McMillin

McMillin Kindness Storm

Tuesday, January 30th- Friday, February 2nd

The McMillin student council predicts that next week there is going to be a kindness storm passing through McMillin.  The weather predicted is sunny, with a chance of smiles and happiness.  Each day, the storm will shower kindness over certain group of people.  Student council is challenging the McMillin Community to show as many acts of kindness as possible to the following people on the following days.  Remember, small acts of kindness go a long way.

Save the Date- McMillin Family Friday

Families,

We are excited to announce our first Family Friday scheduled for February 9th at 8:20am.  During this event, you will be invited to the McMillin auditorium to learn about the McMillin reading program and strategies to support your child at home in reading.  You will then be invited to visit your child’s classroom to read with your child.  The event will last about an hour in total.  We hope to see as many parents as possible.

What is happening at McMillin January 22nd-26th

CVESD Students Outperform Averages of States Across USA
Students work collaboratively in their classroom. It comes as no surprise that students in the Chula Vista Elementary School District would outperform the averages of their peers in San Diego County and California in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics. With the recent release of state testing results, CVESD students outscored south San Diego County districts and California state testing averages for the third consecutive year. What isn’t as widely known is that CVESD students also outperformed the testing averages of 13 states across the nation in ELA, and all but one in mathematics. The 13 states including California are part of the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC). CVESD trailed only Washington, in mathematics, by just one percentage point.

Our teachers want students to do well on tests, go to college, get good jobs. But universally, our teachers also want students to become decent people and responsible citizens–to lead a good life. We believe that McMillin should play an important role in helping students do so. Our teachers make student wise and good.

Jump Rope for Heart – Feb. 14th

Jump Rope for Heart will be taking place on Feb. 14th.  This is a fundraising event to benefit the American Heart Association (AHA). We have already opened the window for raising funds and will be having an assembly tomorrow to send home more information. The last few years McMillin has been one of the top schools for raising funds in our district.  The AHA thanks our students with great prizes they can earn and rewards us as a campus with funds to purchase P.E. equipment. Please consider having your child participate in this worthwhile event!
