16th Annual Beyond Awareness on February 7th – Volunteers Needed!

The PTA is in need of volunteers for the 16th Annual Beyond Awareness at McMillin on Thursday, February 7th. At this event, we celebrate diversity at its best. Community members with a variety of disabilities come to our school and share the message that even though their disability may be the first thing you notice, it is not what defines them as a person.  Our hope is that our students will take what they have learned through this experience, to help make the world a better place.

We are seeking volunteers to check in presenters, set up for the event, escort presenters around campus, prepare and serve lunch, assist presenters as needed, and clean up. If you are interested in volunteering, you may sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0D4EA4AE22AAFB6-beyond.

This Week at McMillin – Jan. 28th – Feb. 2

“It’s PAWSITIVELY GREAT to be a BEAGLE!”

This year, we have been working very hard as a school community to provide an education for our students that not only connects with their minds, but also with their hearts.  With the district’s support around MTSS and PBIS, McMillin has taken on the challenge of true implementation of PBIS. We have developed school-wide norms, BE SAFE, BE RESPECTFUL and BE RESPONSIBLE, a school motto and expectations across locations on our campus.  Restorative Practices have been in use for several years at McMillin, however, the new work with PBIS and SEL with Sanford Harmony has only strengthened our efforts to support the whole child at McMillin.

Our 16th Annual Beyond Awareness Celebration will be held at McMillin on Thursday, February 7th.  We welcome each one of you to attend! At this event, we celebrate diversity at its best. Community members with a variety of disabilities come to our school and share the message that even though their disability may be the first thing you notice, it not what defines them as a person.  Our hope is that our students will take what they have learned through this experience, to help make the world a better place.

Free-Reduced Lunch Application

Dear Parents and Guardians:

If you have been adversely affected by the government shutdown, families may complete a free-reduced lunch application and claim $0 income, as a result of lost wages.  This rule applies to any families who may experience any other sort of job loss, or financial hardship, throughout the school year.  Even though the shutdown has ended, or if employment were found, families would receive free-reduced lunches through the remainder of 2019, or in any other given school year.

To complete an electronic lunch application, please go to: https://parentapp.cvesd.org/Register.aspx

Thank you!

Welcome Back McMillin Beagles

Happy New Year!

We would like to welcome everyone back to school. As always, there is much going on this quarter including Jump Rope for Heart, Beyond Awareness, Speech Contest, and Read Across America.  Also, our basketball team will begin their games against other CVESD schools!

Remember, school begins on Tuesday, January 15 and it is early dismissal @ 1:15 P.M.  School begins promptly at 8:15 am for K -6th grade students and 8:00 am for our TK students. Please make it a goal to be at school and on time daily!  Please, Please do not drop off student before 7:45 am. We do not have supervision for students before 7:45. All student at school before that time will need to call home and have someone pick them back up.

McMillin has an MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) team that consists of teachers and support staff. We are looking for a parent representation to join our team. It consists of monthly after-school meetings. We discuss how we can have a system of support for student social and emotional development. Email cynthia.orr@cvesd.org if you are interested.

Our MTSS team made some changes to our expectations:

  1. All cell phones/video games that are out and seen during morning lineup will be confiscated and parents will need to pick up the devices.
  2. Helmets will need to be worn when riding scooter, skateboards, and bikes. The helmet will need to be securely fastened at all times when riding.

We are so excited to see you all at school in a few days!

I wish you all a year full of dreams made reality, health, and happiness!
