This Week at McMillin – March 22 – 26th

Dear Parents/Guardians:

If you were not able to make the Principal Chat on Friday here is a recording of the event. My hope is that you after viewing will ensure you know of the myriad of preparations that have been made at McMillin in advance of students’ return to school.

I would like to thank our custodial, clerical, and support staff for their incredible assistance to ensure our campus safety measures are in place. I would also like to thank our teachers for their assistance and input. Together, our learning community made sure safety is a priority, and that we are all ready for our Beagles’ return.

Actions:

  • Arrival/Dismissal procedures have been identified for our campus for employees and students alike.
  • Arrival and dismissal waiting areas will be clearly marked, physical distance markers will be placed, and procedures for students entering the campus for a.m./p.m. sessions have been established.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting procedures have been identified, practiced and timed by our custodial staff so that we know that we can get classrooms cleaned and/or disinfected in the time allotted between a.m./p.m. sessions (during teacher lunchtime).
  • Areas for staff to eat lunch have been identified, seating counted, and set up for physical distancing for our teachers/staff so that they can safely eat their meals.
  • Personal Protective Equipment is here in abundance. Items on hand and ready to go include face shields for adults, gloves, and gowns if needed, hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, disposable masks, cloth masks, masks for kids, mask for adults and more!
  • Signagewe already have signage ready to go for all areas of our campus. The only reason some stickers and signs have not been affixed is because we want the material to be fresh and new looking when students arrive.
  • We have signs ready to go for classroom doors to identify which rooms need to be cleaned/disinfected and which are ready to go for teachers to come back into after lunch.
  • Check in procedures for students have been identified, set up, practiced and timed (with students from our Distance Learning Support Program). We are ready to check-in students effectively and efficiently in 10 minutes or less.
  • We have tents ready for outdoor learning spaces or for inclement weather needs.
  • We have learning materials and signs ready for teaching and reinforcing the 4 Pillars to the students.
  • Our classrooms are set up for 14 students. We have 6-foot spacing in our classrooms. Shields for student desks have been/are being placed in all in-person classes.
  • Temperature checking procedures and equipment have been checked, tested, and timed. We have plenty of equipment for this safety measure.
  • Procedures for inperson teaching staff have been discussed, identified, and will be reiterated with in-person teaching staff well before the return date.
  • Every classroom has a HEPA air filter; vents have been opened for maximum outside air to enter.
  • Schedules have been made and shared with parents. Information about the time at school (155 minutes) has been shared with parents.

With these safety-focused actions completed, we are confident that our school’s learning and working environment is ready for students and staff to continue this year’s school year in a more traditional way—in-person, with regular social interaction. Together, we can finish the school year well.
