Attendance Update

Did you know that missing 18 days in a school year is considered chronically absent? This not only impacts students’ academic wellbeing, but also their social relationships with their peers. McMillin’s Chronic Absenteeism Rate for the 23-24 school year was 12%. We dropped an outstanding 6% from the year prior! We’d like to continue that trend and our chronic absenteeism goal for this year is 8%.

Here’s our attendance from last week. Our goal is to reach 97% attendance overall each week.  Our overall average last week was: 93.68 %.

We miss you when you’re out!

Visitors and Safety Update

In an effort to enhance safety at our school, CVESD has installed a buzzer on the front office doors. When you arrive to the office, please knock to let us know you are here and someone will buzz you in. Unfortunately, the door does not make a sound when it is unlocked. We ask that you pull the door open after knocking. Please be advised that only the door on the right-hand side will be unlocked.

All visitors on campus after the start of the bell and during school hours must be signed in at the front office. Please be prepared to bring your I.D. and sign in via the Raptor Visitor Management System.

The same rules apply for our volunteers. If you are planning to volunteer on campus, please be sure to arrive early to complete all necessary paperwork and orientation requirements. We appreciate everyone’s understanding, as it is important for the safety of our campus and students.

Additionally, for the safety of our students, staff and families this is a friendly reminder to please follow all parking and traffic rules when driving and parking on campus. Visitors should not leave vehicles unattended in the drop off and pick up lane, and please make sure you are not parking in any red zones, Proper plates or placards should be displayed if you park in the handicap spots. CVPD SROs have been on site to help ensure traffic regulations are being followed.

Winter Concerts

We are excited to see all our students perform in this week’s winter concerts! We welcome families to come and enjoy the performances throughout the week. Please see the schedule below.  Questions: Jessandra.Kono@cvesd.org

CHKS Consent and School Wide Contest

The California Healthy Kids Survey (5th grade) and Hanover Survey (4th-6th grade) provides families with an opportunity to provide feedback on our culture, climate and safety at McMillin Elementary. We want to make sure we hear as many voices as possible from your children/students, our families and our staff. Your participation will help us improve our services!

A permission slip should have come home for you to review and sign so that your child can participate in the survey. If you agree, please read, sign and return the document ASAP. If you have any questions, please email our district representative, Giovanna Castro (Giovanna.Castro@cvesd.org).

This week the CHKS survey will be administered to 5th grade students who opted in.

Thank you!

Federal Survey

Please ensure these yellow Federal Survey forms are sent back to your student’s teacher. This form is sent home annually, and our goal is to get 100% of them back. Please make sure they are filled out completely, with a signature and date of Nov. 1, 2024 (or after) or they will be returned to you to complete. We greatly appreciate your help in getting these back as soon as possible!

All families are asked to complete the form.
