Welcome to another week, Beagles! This week we have Mark Adato joining us an acting Associate Principal through the remainder of the school year to support while Ms. Barajas is out. Mr. Adato brings with him a wealth of experience as a first year mentor for K-12 teachers, a data coach and a participant of Teach For America. Please give him a warm welcome! Teacher Appreciation Week

Message from PTA: Teachers & Staff Appreciation Week is next week! 🎉 May 5th – 9th! It is time to honor the teachers & staff we have at McMillin! 🤩 This year’s theme: You are STARS 🌟 While you are free to honor them however and as often as you’d like, we wanted to offer some suggestions and ideas of how to show your gratitude.🙏🏼 Don’t forget ALL of the amazing staff we have, including the VAPA teachers, the advisors that run our LEAD programs/clubs, and so many more! Let’s show them we are their number one fans! 🙌🏼 (Flyers and the Fan Mail sheet will be heading home within the next day or two. Feel free to make as many copies as you’d like!) Additionally, thanks to your generous support throughout the school year, McMillin PTA will also be celebrating them on your behalf throughout the week and the grande finale will be a special staff luncheon! CAASPP Starts This Week!

Please join me in wishing all our 3-6 grade students good luck as they begin their CAASPP assessments this week! Our students and teachers have been working hard all year, and we’re already so proud of them for all their accomplishments! Remember, this is just  one way our site and district measure student success. Our school will begin testing at 8:45 and we will test through recess (10:05 for third and fourth graders, and 10:30 for fifth and sixth graders). You can support your student by ensuring they get a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast to start their day! Please arrive to school on time. Any students arriving after 8:45 will spend the testing time in another classroom and makeup their test on another day. Electronic devices, including smart watches and cell phones cannot be in the classrooms at all during testing. They need to remain in backpacks. Teachers will remind your students, but please talk to them or keep devices at home during testing. ¡Únase a mí para desear buena suerte a todos nuestros estudiantes de 3º a 6º grado cuando comiencen sus evaluaciones CAASPP esta semana! Nuestros estudiantes y maestros han estado trabajando duro todo el año, ¡y ya estamos muy orgullosos de ellos por todos sus logros! Recuerde, esta es solo una de las formas en que nuestro sitio y distrito miden el éxito de los estudiantes. Nuestra escuela comenzará las pruebas a las 8:45 y las evaluaremos durante el recreo (10:05 para los estudiantes de tercer y cuarto grado, y 10:30 para los de quinto y sexto grado). ¡Puede apoyar a su estudiante asegurándose de que obtenga una buena noche de descanso y un desayuno saludable para comenzar el día! Drop Off and Pick Up Line

In an effort to make our drop off and pick up line efficient and reduce traffic, we remind families to please remain in their cars at drop off and to pull forward once your child is walking toward to the school. Helping your child gather his or her belongings before you get to the front so they can exit your vehicle independently and quickly will also help our lines keep moving. Thank you for your cooperation as we try to keep our traffic to a minimum for everyone.   En un esfuerzo por hacer que nuestra línea de entrega y recogida sea eficiente y reducir el tráfico, les recordamos a las familias que permanezcan en sus autos al dejar y que se detengan hacia adelante una vez que su hijo camine hacia la escuela. Ayudar a su hijo a recoger sus pertenencias antes de que usted llegue al frente para que pueda salir de su vehículo de forma independiente y rápida también ayudará a que nuestras líneas sigan moviéndose. Gracias por su cooperación, ya que intentamos mantener nuestro tráfico al mínimo para todos.

Visitors and Safety Reminders

This is a friendly reminder that in an effort to enhance safety at our school, CVESD installed a buzzer on the front office doors. When you arrive to the office, please knock to let us know you are here and someone will buzz you in. Unfortunately, the door does not make a sound when it is unlocked. We ask that you pull the door open after knocking. Please be advised that only the door on the right-hand side will be unlocked. Additionally, during school hours, from 8:15-2:45, only volunteers are allowed on campus. Please be prepared to bring your I.D. and sign in via the Raptor Visitor Management System. If you are planning to volunteer regularly,  please be sure to speak with our secretary, Ms. Moraima, to complete all necessary paperwork and orientation requirements. We appreciate everyone’s understanding, as it is important for the safety of our campus and students. Este es un recordatorio amistoso de que en un esfuerzo por mejorar la seguridad en nuestra escuela, CVESD instaló un timbre en las puertas de la oficina principal. Cuando llegue a la oficina, llame para informarnos que está aquí y alguien le llamará para que entre. Desafortunadamente, la puerta no hace ningún ruido cuando está desbloqueada. Le pedimos que abra la puerta después de llamar. Tenga en cuenta que solo se desbloqueará la puerta del lado derecho. Además, durante el horario escolar, de 8:15 a 2:45, solo se permiten voluntarios en el campus. Lastly, for the safety of our students, staff and families this is a friendly reminder to please follow all parking and traffic rules when driving and parking on campus. Visitors should not leave vehicles unattended in the drop off and pick up lane, and please make sure you are not parking in any red zones, Proper plates or placards should be displayed if you park in the handicap spots. CVPD SROs have been on site to help ensure traffic regulations are being followed. Por último, para la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes, personal y familias, este es un recordatorio amistoso de que siga todas las reglas de estacionamiento y tráfico cuando conduzca y se estacione en el campus. Los visitantes no deben dejar vehículos desatendidos en el carril de entrega y recogida, y asegúrese de no estacionarse en ninguna zona roja, se deben mostrar placas o carteles adecuados si se estaciona en los lugares para discapacitados. Los SRO de CVPD han estado en el lugar para ayudar a garantizar que se cumplan las normas de tráfico.

Attendance Update

Did you know that missing 18 days in a school year is considered chronically absent? This not only impacts students’ academic wellbeing, but also their social relationships with their peers. McMillin’s Chronic Absenteeism Rate for the 23-24 school year was 12%. We dropped an outstanding 6% from the year prior! We’d like to continue that trend and our chronic absenteeism goal for this year is 8%. ¿Sabías que faltas 18 días en un año escolar se considera ausencia crónica? Esto no solo impacta en el bienestar académico de los estudiantes, sino también en sus relaciones sociales con sus compañeros. La tasa de ausentismo crónico de McMillin para el año escolar 23-24 fue del 12%. ¡Perdimos un 6% con respecto al año anterior! Nos gustaría continuar con esa tendencia y nuestro objetivo de ausentismo crónico para este año es del 8%.
