McMillin TESTING Calendar 2022

COVID test kits were distributed the last week of quarter 3. We ask that you please use this test Sunday, April 3 before returning to school.

While there is no statewide testing mandate for students returning to school, we highly encourage you to use the kits to test your children for COVID-19 before returning from the spring break on April 4, 2022, to help keep in-person school safe for everyone.

Instructions are available by video and as an insert in the box: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBt_H4Gc-rU

Positive tests can be reported by using THIS LINK

COVID testing on-site for registered students.

Testing will occur every Tuesday. If you have consented to test at a COVID kiosk at Eastlake Elementary, it is also giving consent to testing at school. If you have registered your child and they have not been tested, it means there was either a mistake with the birth date, or you put a parent’s name where the child’s name must be in the form. Simply re-register using the link below.

To register your child CLICK HERE

Parking

Please use the blacktop after school to pick up students. This was created to get cars off of Santa Cora Ave. Yes, it will take around 10-15 minutes to pick up your child, so plan on that.

The condo complex across the street from McMillin has called me to complain about parents going into their complex to pick up students. They will start ticketing and using security to stop the traffic into their complex. Please be kind to our neighbors.

Our parking lot is for parents/guardians picking up their kinder, TK, and SDC students only. These students need to be picked up at the classroom door so please let them park.

Thank you to those who donated to the South Bay YMCA fundraiser! We met our goal!!

This Week at McMillin – March 14th – March 18th

Please see the letter below from our Superintendent of schools, Dr. Eduardo Reyes.

Dear District Parents/Guardians and Staff,

From the outset of the COVID-19 global pandemic, the Chula Vista Elementary School District has placed the safety and health of our students, teachers, and staff, as our number one priority. On February 28, Governor Newsom announced his plan to lift indoor mask mandates at California schools due to declining case rates and hospitalizations. Chula Vista Elementary School District is pleased to announce that last night, the Board of Education took action to lift the indoor mask mandate starting on March 21, 2022.

We are committed to keeping our schools as safe as possible. This means, beginning Monday, March 21, 2022, all students, and staff members in Chula Vista Elementary Schools and buildings will no longer be required to wear a mask indoors, although it is still strongly recommended. Any student, parent, or staff member who chooses to continue wearing a mask may do so. Please note, masking is still required indoors in our schools through Friday, March 18.

CVESD continues to lead the state in the most comprehensive safety practices. As masks become optional, we have a lot of practices in place that will allow us to transition into optional masking with little disruption. Our voluntary weekly testing will continue to be a critical way that we keep our classrooms and schools safe. Every desk in every classroom and high touch surface areas will be cleaned and sanitized daily by trained staff. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will continue to be readily available. Home COVID-19 tests will be made available for students during the week of March 14. It is strongly encouraged that students test for COVID19 either using an at-home test or testing at one of our five testing locations at the end of Spring Break, before returning to school on April 4.

Please speak to your children about the importance of continuing to wear masks indoors through Friday, March 18, so as not to disrupt their learning process. Our hardworking teachers, classified staff, and administrators need your continued support to keep the focus on teaching and learning in our schools.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation throughout the pandemic as we continue to provide our students with the best in-person and virtual learning.

Thank you,
Dr. Eduardo Reyes
Superintendent

Our 2021-2022 McMillin teacher of the year is

Mrs. MENDOZA!!!

Even though all McMillin teachers are amazing, this year we recognize Mrs. Mendoza. She is the kind of teacher that is kind, fun, and keeps the kids learning at the same time. She has a seamless balance of love with a push that helps every student in her class be the best person and student they can be.
Congratulation Mrs. Mendoza. This recognition is well deserved.

Lifting Outdoor Mask Mandate

“Currently, we are happy to announce a lifting of the requirement to wear masks outdoors at school. This policy update will take effect on Monday, February 28. Of course, any student or staff member who feels more comfortable wearing a mask while outdoors at school is welcome to continue to do so. We continue to have the mandate to always wear masks indoors for all students and adults. We will continue to monitor health organizations’ recommendations, and local, state, and federal mandates to determine the best course of action as we navigate through this pandemic.”

**It is my understanding that students will still need to wear masks in the lunch line when entering the cafeteria.

6th Grade Promotion

This year our 6th-grade promotion will be outside on the playground. The date is Thursday, June 2nd at 9:00-10:00 am. We need a few things to pull this off. Any ideas are appreciated. We are looking to rent a stage and speaker system for outside. Parents can park on the blacktop, etc.
