This Week at McMillin – Jan. 31st-Feb. 4th

Dear McMillin Families,

I hope this message finds you safe and well this weekend.  As you know, this pandemic has made an impact on our entire community.  I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude to our staff, who have worked incredibly hard to keep our students on campus and learning.  This season has proven to be the most challenging yet and we are all committed to our McMillin Beagles. We appreciate the support of our parents, as you are an important piece to the success of your children. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me.  My door is always open and I am here to support our entire community.

Take Care,

Cindy Orr

New COVID Exposure Update

Dear McMillin Families,

Thank you for your flexibility and understanding while we navigated our first two weeks of Quarter 3 together. As you can imagine, this most recent surge of COVID-19 has impacted our school community in many ways. We are working together to ensure the safest environment possible for students and staff here on campus.

In light of this surge, a revision to the notification process for positive cases has been made for TK-6 students. On Friday, January 21st, you should have received an email from CVESD laying out the new change in the notification. For TK-6 students, we are now conducting “Group-Tracing.”  Some of the highlights from that email are the following:

“The new group-tracing approach to students exposed to a positive COVID case at school allows for a quicker and broader response through prompt notification, testing, and isolation protocols. Anyone who spent more than a cumulative total of 15 minutes (within 24 hours) in shared indoor airspace (e.g., for example, an entire classroom or an entire athletic team during practice) will receive an email notification. Because being exposed to somebody with COVID does not necessarily mean that your child will become infected, public health says your child may remain in school if you receive this notification, unless they develop symptoms or test positive. In addition to wearing a mask and monitoring for symptoms, it is required your child get tested within 3-5 days after the last contact with the positive individual. Proof of a negative test does not need to be submitted in this case. Any positive results should be reported to your child’s school immediately.”

Which Test Should I Take?
PCR or antigen are both acceptable for group contact testing, but it is highly recommended that individuals who have had a history of testing positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days use an antigen test. Home antigen tests are allowed.

Should your child test positive, please send an email to this link.  This is a shared mailbox in the office so that we can properly document positive cases.

Any questions related to quarantine or isolation can be directed to covtest4@cvesd.org

Happy New Year- January 10th – 14th, 2022

I hope this message finds you safe and well after our three-week break.  We are very excited to welcome our students back to campus on Tuesday, January 11th and it will be a minimum day.  Here are some important announcements for the week:

California encourages all families to access at-home COVID-19 testing for their children before returning to school after the winter break. To help make this a reality, California is providing one rapid test kit for each K–12 public school student.

Covid- 19 Test Pick up Monday, January 10th

Information regarding pick up of student tests: https://mcmillinelementary.edublogs.org/2022/01/06/important-updates/

I will have the gates open at McMillin if you would like to walk to get your child’s COVID test. We will be on the blacktop. PLEASE only pick up tests for your child or children that are McMillin students. We only have enough for the students that attend McMillin. Please come with a post-it, index card, or something that you can hand our staff with your child’s or children’s name on it so that we can look up your child’s name quickly. This will really help expedite the process.

Also, please do not reach out to teachers at this time. This is not a time to have a “meeting” with your child’s teacher. This is their prep and training day and they will not have time to talk to you about your child. Thank you for understanding. Please Dojo or email teachers if you have any questions.

Scan the QR code for instructions to utilize the test kits provided on Monday.
