Solar Eclipse Monday April 8th

As you may be aware, on Monday, April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The total solar eclipse will block out the sun momentarily for millions of viewers along a path stretching from northern Mexico to Maine.

While San Diego County is not on the path to the total eclipse, the region is expected to see a partial eclipse beginning around 10 a.m., peaking about an hour later at 11:11 a.m., and ending at 12:23 p.m.

As the safety of our students and staff is our top priority, all schools within CVESD are required to operate on a rainy day schedule on April 8. This means all recess and lunch must take place indoors.

If classroom teachers and students are interested in viewing the eclipse with the proper safety procedures in place, parents will be required to sign a waiver in order for their child to view the eclipse. Waiver Form Solar Eclipse 2024

As such, any student who will participate in viewing the solar eclipse must wear protective glasses.  Only proper glasses (specific for solar eclipse) may be used if your site chooses to participate in viewing the eclipse.  Solar Views must comply with the ISO 12312-2 international standard.

As you know, direct exposure to the sun’s rays, especially during an eclipse, poses severe risks to eye health. Even a partial eclipse can cause irreversible eye damage without proper precautions. We’d like to ask you to make eye safety a top priority during this time.
