1st McMillin Multicultural Family Association/ELAC Meeting of the Year!

McMillin Families,

All are welcomed to attend our first Multicultural Family Association/ELAC meeting of the school year!

WHEN: AUGUST 1, 2018 at 8:30am

WHERE: McMillin Auditorium

The main purpose of the Multicultural Family Association is to recognize, celebrate, honor and expose our students to the different cultures that make up our McMillin Family.

The role of ELAC – English Language Advisory Committee – is to advise the principal and School Site Council on programs and services for English learners. The ELAC acts in an advisory capacity. It is not a decision making body, but it is the voice of the English learner community. Specifically, the ELAC:

* Advises on the development of services for English learners in the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA).

* Assists in the development of the school’s needs assessment and efforts to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance.

* Has representation on District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC).

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Sutton at crystal.sutton@cvesd.org.  Again, all are welcome – we look forward to seeing you there!

What is happening at McMillin – Week of July 20- August 3rd

McMillin’s Wonderful VAPA Team!!

What a great first week back. This week we have been learning Peaceful Playground. We believe that every child deserves a safe space to Play. A safe play environment enhances Learning, prevents bullying and school injuries, and promotes positive social interactions on the playground.

All children deserve the opportunity to be happy, healthy, Active, positive, and productive. Supporting healthy active students is key.

The mission of the Peaceful Playgrounds is to create a safe play environment, support healthy active kids, and advocate for recess and free play. We believe the benefits of free play are best accomplished by enhancing the play environment and allowing children lots of choices.

These 5 solutions make up the Peaceful Playgrounds Recess Program today:

  1. Conflict Resolution
  2. Rules
  3. Equipment
  4. Expectations
  5. Designs – We will need some parent volunteers to help us paint our playground during the Fall Break. We are waiting for the District to resurface it first.
