This Week at McMillin – March 14th – March 18th

Please see the letter below from our Superintendent of schools, Dr. Eduardo Reyes.

Dear District Parents/Guardians and Staff,

From the outset of the COVID-19 global pandemic, the Chula Vista Elementary School District has placed the safety and health of our students, teachers, and staff, as our number one priority. On February 28, Governor Newsom announced his plan to lift indoor mask mandates at California schools due to declining case rates and hospitalizations. Chula Vista Elementary School District is pleased to announce that last night, the Board of Education took action to lift the indoor mask mandate starting on March 21, 2022.

We are committed to keeping our schools as safe as possible. This means, beginning Monday, March 21, 2022, all students, and staff members in Chula Vista Elementary Schools and buildings will no longer be required to wear a mask indoors, although it is still strongly recommended. Any student, parent, or staff member who chooses to continue wearing a mask may do so. Please note, masking is still required indoors in our schools through Friday, March 18.

CVESD continues to lead the state in the most comprehensive safety practices. As masks become optional, we have a lot of practices in place that will allow us to transition into optional masking with little disruption. Our voluntary weekly testing will continue to be a critical way that we keep our classrooms and schools safe. Every desk in every classroom and high touch surface areas will be cleaned and sanitized daily by trained staff. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will continue to be readily available. Home COVID-19 tests will be made available for students during the week of March 14. It is strongly encouraged that students test for COVID19 either using an at-home test or testing at one of our five testing locations at the end of Spring Break, before returning to school on April 4.

Please speak to your children about the importance of continuing to wear masks indoors through Friday, March 18, so as not to disrupt their learning process. Our hardworking teachers, classified staff, and administrators need your continued support to keep the focus on teaching and learning in our schools.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation throughout the pandemic as we continue to provide our students with the best in-person and virtual learning.

Thank you,
Dr. Eduardo Reyes
Superintendent

Our 2021-2022 McMillin teacher of the year is

Mrs. MENDOZA!!!

Even though all McMillin teachers are amazing, this year we recognize Mrs. Mendoza. She is the kind of teacher that is kind, fun, and keeps the kids learning at the same time. She has a seamless balance of love with a push that helps every student in her class be the best person and student they can be.
Congratulation Mrs. Mendoza. This recognition is well deserved.
