New Staff

We’re excited to welcome three new staff members to our team starting this week.

Jaclyn Strohmeyer will be our new Occupational Therapist, on campus Mondays, Wednesdays Thursdays and Fridays.

Pooja Joshi will also be our OT on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and will be helping to provide makeup services and assessments as needed.

We also have a new evening custodian, Mark Myers. Please extend a warm McMillin welcome if you see them around!

Read Across America Week and Family Read Event

Mark your calendars!  Read Across America Week is coming up! It is March 3-7th. 
 
 
READING CHALLENGE
PTA and Ms. Ana will be hosting a reading challenge.  Students will be receiving reading logs from their teachers. Challenge your students to step up their reading and make their reading volume goals!  The challenge will last until March 10.
 
WINNERS:  If they fill up their logs and correctly turn them in to Ms. Ana in the library drop off tray, they will receive a surprise!  Also, the top primary and upper grade classroom with the highest participation rate will receive a PTA sponsored ice cream party! (popsicles for those with dairy constrictions).
 
Also, top classes will win Scholastic dollars to order books for their classroom!
 
 
FAMILY READ
We will end the week on Friday, March 7th with our McMillin Family Read from 8:30-9:00.  More info to come with the check in process as we are working with the district to set up a new iPad system.

RETO DE LECTURA
La PTA y la Sra. Ana serán los anfitriones de un desafío de lectura.  Los estudiantes recibirán registros de lectura de sus maestros. ¡Desafíe a sus estudiantes a intensificar su lectura y cumplir con sus metas de volumen de lectura!  El reto durará hasta el 10 de marzo.
 
GANADORES:
Si llenan sus registros y los entregan correctamente a la Sra. Ana en la bandeja de entrega de la biblioteca, ¡recibirán una sorpresa!  Además, el aula de primaria superior y grado superior con la tasa de participación más alta recibirá una fiesta de helados patrocinada por la PTA. (paletas heladas para aquellos con constricciones lácteas). Además, las mejores clases ganarán dólares de Scholastic para pedir libros para su salón de clases.
 
LECTURA FAMILIAR
Terminaremos la semana el viernes 7 de marzo con nuestra lectura familiar McMillin de 8:30 a 9:00.  Más información por venir con el proceso de registro, ya que estamos trabajando con el distrito para configurar un nuevo sistema de iPad.
 
 

Family Folkdance Night

 Our Our music teacher, Ms. Kono, is hosting Family Folkdance night this Tuesday! No signup required. If you are interested in attending this free event, please meet Ms. Kono in the MPR at 5pm on Tuesday, February 25th.

McMillin Talent Show

Ready to show your talent, Beagles? Talent show auditions are coming up! T

his year, talent show auditions will be by VIDEO submission only. We will not be having in person auditions this year. If you are interested in auditioning for this year’s talent show, please submit a video to Ms. Kono by March 14th either via Class Dojo or to ms.konomusic@gmail.com Talent requirements:

– Can be any performing talent (gymnastics, dance, singing) or showcase of a skill

– Must be no longer than 1.5 minutes long – If you are using music, the music must be school appropriate.

-Acts may be done individually or in a group If your student is accepted into this year’s talent show, please prepare to have them attend talent show rehearsals next quarter. They will be held Tuesdays in April from 3-4pm. The evening show will be Thursday, May 1st at 5pm.

Adelante Mujer Conference- April 19. Open to all 6th Grade Latina Girls

The Adelante Mujer Conference is a transformative event designed to inspire 6th-grade Latina students to pursue higher education and leadership roles. The conference features engaging workshops, inspiring guest speakers, college and career information, and much more.
 
We’re excited to share the attached Save the Date flyer for your awareness. Please note that registration for the conference will be fully covered, and transportation will be provided at specific sites. All students attending must be accompanied by an adult. English Learner Advisory Council (ELAC) Meeting

Our next English Learner Advisory Council Meeting will be Wednesday March 5 from 1:30-2:00 in the library and we’ll be holding our reclassification ceremony! We’ll also be discussing our needs assessment for our English Learner Students. Parents and guardians of our multi-lingual students are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting, and share your input as to what supports and services McMillin can provide in the 25-26 school year to continue to support our multi-lingual students. FREE Burlington English Parent Class to follow!

ELPAC- English Language Proficiency Assessment of California

Starting in February the ELPAC will be administered to our multi-lingual students. The ELPAC is the required state test for English language proficiency (ELP) that must be given to students whose primary language is a language other than English. Students will be tested in the areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing. The speaking portion will be administered 1:1 in all grade levels, by our English Language Instructional Assistant, Ms. Villasenor, beginning this week. She will be working through the grade levels during the month of February and March. The reading, writing and listening will be administered in a setting, by one teacher in each grade level for 3-6, and 1:1 by Ms. Villasenor in grades K-2. 

Please ensure your student gets a good night’s rest, a nutritious breakfast and arrives to school on time ready to do their very best!

 2nd Grade: Week of March 17

1st Grade: Week of April 28

Kinder:  Week of May 19

 

A partir de febrero, el ELPAC se administrará a nuestros estudiantes multilingües. El ELPAC es el examen estatal requerido para el dominio del idioma inglés (ELP) que se debe dar a los estudiantes cuyo idioma principal es un idioma distinto al inglés. Los estudiantes serán evaluados en las áreas de hablar, escuchar, leer y escribir. La parte oral será administrada 1:1 en todos los niveles de grado, por nuestra Asistente de Instrucción del Idioma Inglés, la Sra. Villaseñor, a partir de esta semana. Ella estará trabajando a través de los niveles de grado durante el mes de febrero y marzo. La lectura, la escritura y la comprensión auditiva serán administradas en un entorno, por un maestro en cada nivel de grado para 3-6, y 1:1 por la Sra. Villaseñor en los grados K-2.

LCAP- Local Control Accountability Plan

Each year, school districts are required to develop and update their Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP)—a three-year roadmap outlining goals, actions, and expenditures designed to enhance student outcomes. At CVESD, community involvement is essential to ensuring our resources align with the diverse needs of students. As part of this process, we invite you for an in-person informational session. Your feedback is invaluable in shaping the future of the district. Save the Date this event will occur on Thursday March 15 from 8:15-8:30 at McMillin. More details to come.

Cada año, se requiere que los distritos escolares desarrollen y actualicen su Plan de Control Local y Responsabilidad (LCAP, por sus siglas en inglés), una hoja de ruta de tres años que describe las metas, acciones y gastos diseñados para mejorar los resultados de los estudiantes. En CVESD, la participación de la comunidad es esencial para garantizar que nuestros recursos se alineen con las diversas necesidades de los estudiantes. Como parte de este proceso, lo invitamos a una sesión informativa en persona. Sus comentarios son invaluables para dar forma al futuro de la distrito. Visitors and Safety Reminders

This is a friendly reminder that in an effort to enhance safety at our school, CVESD installed a buzzer on the front office doors. When you arrive to the office, please knock to let us know you are here and someone will buzz you in. Unfortunately, the door does not make a sound when it is unlocked. We ask that you pull the door open after knocking. Please be advised that only the door on the right-hand side will be unlocked. Additionally, during school hours, from 8:15-2:45, only volunteers are allowed on campus.  Please be prepared to bring your I.D. and sign in via the Raptor Visitor Management System. If you are planning to volunteer regularly,  please be sure to speak with our secretary, Ms. Moraima, to complete all necessary paperwork and orientation requirements. We appreciate everyone’s understanding, as it is important for the safety of our campus and students.

Este es un recordatorio amistoso de que en un esfuerzo por mejorar la seguridad en nuestra escuela, CVESD instaló un timbre en las puertas de la oficina principal. Visitors should not leave vehicles unattended in the drop off and pick up lane, and please make sure you are not parking in any red zones, Proper plates or placards should be displayed if you park in the handicap spots. CVPD SROs have been on site to help ensure traffic regulations are being followed.

Por último, para la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes, personal y familias, este es un recordatorio amistoso de que siga todas las reglas de estacionamiento y tráfico cuando conduzca y se estacione en el campus. Attendance Update

Did you know that missing 18 days in a school year is considered chronically absent? This not only impacts students’ academic wellbeing, but also their social relationships with their peers. McMillin’s Chronic Absenteeism Rate for the 23-24 school year was 12%. We dropped an outstanding 6% from the year prior! We’d like to continue that trend and our chronic absenteeism goal for this year is 8%. Here’s our attendance from last week. Our goal is to reach 97% attendance overall each week.  We miss you when you’re out!

¿Sabías que faltar 18 días en un año escolar se considera ausencia crónica? Esto no solo impacta en el bienestar académico de los estudiantes, sino también en sus relaciones sociales con sus compañeros. ELPAC- English Language Proficiency Assessment of California

Starting in February the ELPAC will be administered to our multi-lingual students. The ELPAC is the required state test for English language proficiency (ELP) that must be given to students whose primary language is a language other than English. Students will be tested in the areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing. The speaking portion will be administered 1:1 in all grade levels, by our English Language Instructional Assistant, Ms. Villasenor, beginning this week. She will be working through the grade levels during the month of February and March. The reading, writing and listening will be administered in a setting, by one teacher in each grade level for 3-6, and 1:1 by Ms. Villasenor in grades K-2.  Specific dates for group administration for reading, writing and speaking for each grade level will be coming out this week. Please ensure your student gets a good night’s rest, a nutritious breakfast and arrives to school on time ready to do their very best!

4th Grade: February 18, 19, 20

3rd Grade: February 19, 20, 21

2nd Grade: Week of March 17

1st Grade: Week of April 28

A partir de febrero, el ELPAC se administrará a nuestros estudiantes multilingües. LCAP- Local Control Accountability Plan

Each year, school districts are required to develop and update their Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP)—a three-year roadmap outlining goals, actions, and expenditures designed to enhance student outcomes. At CVESD, community involvement is essential to ensuring our resources align with the diverse needs of students. As part of this process, we invite you for an in-person informational session. Your feedback is invaluable in shaping the future of the district. Save the Date this event will occur on Thursday March 15 from 8:15-8:30 at McMillin. More details to come.

Cada año, se requiere que los distritos escolares desarrollen y actualicen su Plan de Control Local y Responsabilidad (LCAP, por sus siglas en inglés), una hoja de ruta de tres años que describe las metas, acciones y gastos diseñados para mejorar los resultados de los estudiantes. En CVESD, la participación de la comunidad es esencial para garantizar que nuestros recursos se alineen con las diversas necesidades de los estudiantes. Como parte de este proceso, lo invitamos a una sesión informativa en persona. Sus comentarios son invaluables para dar forma al futuro de la distrito. Visitors and Safety Reminders

This is a friendly reminder that in an effort to enhance safety at our school, CVESD installed a buzzer on the front office doors. When you arrive to the office, please knock to let us know you are here and someone will buzz you in. Unfortunately, the door does not make a sound when it is unlocked. We ask that you pull the door open after knocking. Please be advised that only the door on the right-hand side will be unlocked. Additionally, during school hours, from 8:15-2:45, only volunteers are allowed on campus.  Please be prepared to bring your I.D. and sign in via the Raptor Visitor Management System. If you are planning to volunteer regularly,  please be sure to speak with our secretary, Ms. Moraima, to complete all necessary paperwork and orientation requirements. We appreciate everyone’s understanding, as it is important for the safety of our campus and students.

Este es un recordatorio amistoso de que en un esfuerzo por mejorar la seguridad en nuestra escuela, CVESD instaló un timbre en las puertas de la oficina principal. Cuando llegue a la oficina, llame para informarnos que está aquí y alguien le llamará para que entre. Desafortunadamente, la puerta no hace ningún ruido cuando está desbloqueada. CVPD SROs have been on site to help ensure traffic regulations are being followed.

Attendance Update

Did you know that missing 18 days in a school year is considered chronically absent? This not only impacts students’ academic wellbeing, but also their social relationships with their peers. McMillin’s Chronic Absenteeism Rate for the 23-24 school year was 12%. We dropped an outstanding 6% from the year prior! We’d like to continue that trend and our chronic absenteeism goal for this year is 8%. Here’s our attendance from last week. Our goal is to reach 97% attendance overall each week.  Our overall average last week was: 94.68 %. We miss you when you’re out!

¿Sabías que faltar 18 días en un año escolar se considera ausencia crónica? Esto no solo impacta en el bienestar académico de los estudiantes, sino también en sus relaciones sociales con sus compañeros. La tasa de ausentismo crónico de McMillin para el año escolar 23-24 fue del 12%. ¡Perdimos un 6% con respecto al año anterior! CVESD Parent University Workshop

CVESD University is a learning experience for parents and guardians. The program’s goal is to provide families with the tools needed to engage in their child’s educational journey in a fun, engaging program. The CVESD University Page can be visited by clicking HERE 

The next workshop is “Ask away!” on Tuesday February 18th from 4-5 pm at the District Office.  Families will learn tips and tricks for preparing for parent-teacher conferences.

Adelante Mujer Conference

The Adelante Mujer Conference is a transformative event designed to inspire 6th-grade Latina students to pursue higher education and leadership roles. The conference features engaging workshops, inspiring guest speakers, college and career information, and much more.
 
We’re excited to share the attached Save the Date flyer for your awareness. Please note that registration for the conference will be fully covered, and transportation will be provided at specific sites. All students attending must be accompanied by an adult. Please email Mrs. Gracia if interested.
 
La Conferencia Adelante Mujer es un evento transformador diseñado para inspirar a las estudiantes latinas de 6º grado a buscar la educación superior y roles de liderazgo. La conferencia cuenta con talleres atractivos, oradores invitados inspiradores, información universitaria y profesional, y mucho más. Nos complace compartir el folleto adjunto Save the Date para su conocimiento. English Learner Advisory Council (ELAC) Meeting

Our next English Learner Advisory Council Meeting will be Wednesday March 5 from 1:30-2:00 in the library and we’ll be holding our reclassification ceremony! We’ll also be discussing our needs assessment for our English Learner Students. Parents and guardians of our multi-lingual students are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting, and share your input as to what supports and services McMillin can provide in the 25-26 school year to continue to support our multi-lingual students. FREE Burlington English Parent Class to follow!  

Nuestra próxima reunión del Consejo Asesor de Estudiantes de Inglés será el miércoles 5 de marzo de 1:30 a 2:00 en la biblioteca y celebraremos nuestra ceremonia de reclasificación. McMillin is once again hiring! If you have a heart for students and are looking for a way to be more involved and connected to our campus we’d love to have you join our team !

We are in need of another noon duty position and will be holding interviews in the next few weeks.

This is a paid position, Monday through Friday, from 11:00-1:00 each day . (2 hours a day, 5 days per week). This is through the end of the school year.

Adelante Mujer Conference

The Adelante Mujer Conference is a transformative event designed to inspire 6th-grade Latina students to pursue higher education and leadership roles. The conference features engaging workshops, inspiring guest speakers, college and career information, and much more.
 
We’re excited to share the attached Save the Date flyer for your awareness. Please note that registration for the conference will be fully covered, and transportation will be provided at specific sites. All students attending must be accompanied by an adult. Please email Mrs. Gracia if interested.
 
La Conferencia Adelante Mujer es un evento transformador diseñado para inspirar a las estudiantes latinas de 6º grado a buscar la educación superior y roles de liderazgo. La conferencia cuenta con talleres atractivos, oradores invitados inspiradores, información universitaria y profesional, y mucho más. Nos complace compartir el folleto adjunto Save the Date para su conocimiento. Tenga en cuenta que la inscripción para la conferencia estará completamente cubierta y se proporcionará transporte en sitios específicos. School Site Council

School Site Council is always open to all our families!  Mark you calendars for our next meeting, which is scheduled for February 26th from 3-4 in room 603, and also offered virtually on TEAMS. Agenda and link to come in the next few weeks.

English Learner Advisory Council (ELAC) Meeting

Our next English Learner Advisory Council Meeting will be Wednesday March 5 from 1:30-2:00 in the library and we’ll be holding our reclassification ceremony! We’ll also be discussing our needs assessment for our English Learner Students. Parents and guardians of our multi-lingual students are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting, and share your input as to what supports and services McMillin can provide in the 25-26 school year to continue to support our multi-lingual students. FREE Burlington English Parent Class to follow!  

 

Nuestra próxima reunión del Consejo Asesor de Estudiantes de Inglés será el miércoles 5 de marzo de 1:30 a 2:00 en la biblioteca y celebraremos nuestra ceremonia de reclasificación. También discutiremos nuestra evaluación de necesidades para nuestros estudiantes que aprenden inglés. Los padres y tutores de nuestros estudiantes multilingües están invitados y alentados a asistir a esta reunión y compartir sus comentarios sobre los apoyos y servicios que McMillin puede proporcionar en el año escolar 25-26 para continuar apoyando a nuestros estudiantes multilingües. ¡Clase de inglés para padres GRATIS en Burlington a seguir!  

ELPAC- English Language Proficiency Assessment of California

Starting in February the ELPAC will be administered to our multi-lingual students. The ELPAC is the required state test for English language proficiency (ELP) that must be given to students whose primary language is a language other than English. Students will be tested in the areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing. The speaking portion will be administered 1:1 in all grade levels, by our English Language Instructional Assistant, Ms. Villasenor, beginning this week. She will be working through the grade levels during the month of February and March. The reading, writing and listening will be administered in a setting, by one teacher in each grade level for 3-6, and 1:1 by Ms. Villasenor in grades K-2.  Specific dates for group administration for reading, writing and speaking for each grade level will be coming out this week. 

Please ensure your student gets a good night’s rest, a nutritious breakfast and arrives to school on time ready to do their very best! 

 

A partir de febrero, el ELPAC se administrará a nuestros estudiantes multilingües. El ELPAC es el examen estatal requerido para el dominio del idioma inglés (ELP) que se debe dar a los estudiantes cuyo idioma principal es un idioma distinto al inglés. Los estudiantes serán evaluados en las áreas de hablar, escuchar, leer y escribir. La parte oral será administrada 1:1 en todos los niveles de grado, por nuestra Asistente de Instrucción del Idioma Inglés, la Sra. Villaseñor, a partir de esta semana. Ella estará trabajando a través de los niveles de grado durante el mes de febrero y marzo. La lectura, la escritura y la comprensión auditiva serán administradas en un entorno, por un maestro en cada nivel de grado para 3-6, y 1:1 por la Sra. Villaseñor en los grados K-2.  Esta semana se darán a conocer las fechas específicas para la administración grupal de lectura, escritura y expresión oral para cada nivel de grado. 

¡Asegúrese de que su estudiante obtenga una buena noche de descanso, un desayuno nutritivo y llegue a la escuela a tiempo listo para dar lo mejor de sí mismo! 

LCAP- Local Control Accountability Plan

Each year, school districts are required to develop and update their Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP)—a three-year roadmap outlining goals, actions, and expenditures designed to enhance student outcomes. At CVESD, community involvement is essential to ensuring our resources align with the diverse needs of students.
As part of this process, we invite you for an in-person informational session. Your feedback is invaluable in shaping the future of the
district. Save the Date this event will occur on Thursday March 15 from 8:15-8:30 at McMillin. More details to come.

 

Cada año, se requiere que los distritos escolares desarrollen y actualicen su Plan de Control Local y Responsabilidad (LCAP, por sus siglas en inglés), una hoja de ruta de tres años que describe las metas, acciones y gastos diseñados para mejorar los resultados de los estudiantes. En CVESD, la participación de la comunidad es esencial para garantizar que nuestros recursos se alineen con las diversas necesidades de los estudiantes.
Como parte de este proceso, lo invitamos a una sesión informativa en persona. Sus comentarios son invaluables para dar forma al futuro de la
distrito. Este evento se llevará a cabo el jueves 15 de marzo de 8:15 a 8:30 am. en McMillin. Más detalles por venir.

Visitors and Safety Reminders

This is a friendly reminder that in an effort to enhance safety at our school, CVESD installed a buzzer on the front office doors. When you arrive to the office, please knock to let us know you are here and someone will buzz you in. Unfortunately, the door does not make a sound when it is unlocked. We ask that you pull the door open after knocking. Please be advised that only the door on the right-hand side will be unlocked. Additionally, during school hours, from 8:15-2:45, only volunteers are allowed on campus.  Please be prepared to bring your I.D. and sign in via the Raptor Visitor Management System. If you are planning to volunteer regularly,  please be sure to speak with our secretary, Ms. Moraima, to complete all necessary paperwork and orientation requirements. We appreciate everyone’s understanding, as it is important for the safety of our campus and students.  

Este es un recordatorio amistoso de que en un esfuerzo por mejorar la seguridad en nuestra escuela, CVESD instaló un timbre en las puertas de la oficina principal. Cuando llegue a la oficina, llame para informarnos que está aquí y alguien le llamará para que entre. Desafortunadamente, la puerta no hace ningún ruido cuando está desbloqueada. Le pedimos que abra la puerta después de llamar. Tenga en cuenta que solo se desbloqueará la puerta del lado derecho. Lastly, for the safety of our students, staff and families this is a friendly reminder to please follow all parking and traffic rules when driving and parking on campus. Visitors should not leave vehicles unattended in the drop off and pick up lane, and please make sure you are not parking in any red zones, Proper plates or placards should be displayed if you park in the handicap spots. CVPD SROs have been on site to help ensure traffic regulations are being followed.

Por último, para la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes, personal y familias, este es un recordatorio amistoso de que siga todas las reglas de estacionamiento y tráfico cuando conduzca y se estacione en el campus. Los visitantes no deben dejar vehículos desatendidos en el carril de entrega y recogida, y asegúrese de no estacionarse en ninguna zona roja, se deben mostrar placas o carteles adecuados si se estaciona en los lugares para discapacitados. Los SRO de CVPD han estado en el lugar para ayudar a garantizar que se cumplan las normas de tráfico.

Attendance Update

Did you know that missing 18 days in a school year is considered chronically absent? This not only impacts students’ academic wellbeing, but also their social relationships with their peers. McMillin’s Chronic Absenteeism Rate for the 23-24 school year was 12%. We dropped an outstanding 6% from the year prior! We’d like to continue that trend and our chronic absenteeism goal for this year is 8%. Here’s our attendance from last week. Our goal is to reach 97% attendance overall each week.  Our overall average last week was: 92.25 % and our year to date average is 95%. We miss you when you’re out! 

 

¿Sabías que faltar 18 días en un año escolar se considera ausencia crónica? Esto no solo impacta en el bienestar académico de los estudiantes, sino también en sus relaciones sociales con sus compañeros. La tasa de ausentismo crónico de McMillin para el año escolar 23-24 fue del 12%. ¡Perdimos un 6% con respecto al año anterior! Nos gustaría continuar con esa tendencia y nuestro objetivo de ausentismo crónico para este año es del 8%. Aquí está nuestra asistencia de la semana pasada. Nuestro objetivo es alcanzar el 97% de asistencia general cada semana.  Nuestro promedio general de la semana pasada fue: 92.25 % y nuestro promedio anual hasta la fecha es de 95 %. ¡Te echamos de menos cuando estás fuera! 

 

CVESD Parent University Workshop

CVESD University is a learning experience for parents and guardians. The program’s goal is to provide families with the tools needed to engage in their child’s educational journey in a fun, engaging program. The CVESD University Page can be visited by clicking HERE 

The next workshop is “Ask away!” on Tuesday February 18th from 4-5 pm at the District Office.  Families will learn tips and tricks for preparing for parent-teacher conferences.
