Welcome Back – Quarter 3 Begins Tuesday, January 14th – Minimum Day!

Happy New Year!  Can you believe it is 2020?  We hope that all of our families have had a relaxing three weeks and we look forward to welcoming our Beagles back on Tuesday, January 14th.  Our first day will be a Minimum Day dismissal schedule for all students.

Our next ELAC (English Language Advisory Committee) Meeting will be on Tuesday, January 21st at 8:30am.

At this meeting, we will present about the upcoming ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessments for California).  Students who are classified as English Learners take this assessment each year.  We will discuss what the assessment is and review some released questions so that you can see how your child is being assessed on their progress in English.  We hope to see you there!

Traffic Safety at McMillin

Safety is always of concern for our students at McMillin and we need the help of our community!  Our neighborhood was designed as a walking community.  However, the current reality is that many of our families drop off and pick up their students by car.  As such, our parking lot in front of the school and back neighborhood gets very congested in the mornings and afternoons.  We have been working with CVPD and made some adjustments that are within our control.  We have also reached out to the City of Chula Vista for input as well.  Our staff and Safety Patrol are trying to support daily.  We wish that we can widen the roads, but that is not possible, unfortunately.

Please help us by adhering to traffic patterns, moving forward so that more cars can pull in and cooperate with our staff and Safety Patrol members.  In the back, please keep our neighbors in mind as driveways are often blocked and they cannot leave or return to their homes.  Also, please use the crosswalks at all times for safety.

If we all work together, we can keep McMillin as safe as possible for all of our students.  Thank you!

Just a reminder that school is closed November 25th through November 29th.

Veteran’s Day Pictures Wanted!

The letter below was sent out via email to our families last week – here it is below as a reminder!

Dear McMillin Families,

At our school, we are so fortunate to be surrounded by a strong military community!  With Veteran’s Day rapidly approaching, we would like to honor our Veterans by putting together a video to thank them for their service.  This video will be played at an all school assembly on November 8th and posted on our school’s blog.

Students are welcome to honor any member of their family who has served our country with a photo submission.  We are accepting photographs digitally from now until October 25th.  By submitting your photo, you understand that the photo you share with us will be viewed by the community and posted on our McMillin Blog.  All photos shared are not saved after the video is created.  No late photos will be accepted!

To have your photo included in this year’s presentation, please send it to patricia.guthrie@mcmillinelementary.com.

Be sure to save the date – November 8th – for our annual picnic lunch to honor our Veterans here at McMillin.  More information will be coming soon!

Thank you,
McMillin Military Planning Committee
