Reopening Playbook for Parents

Our district and school are both making plans to ready the campus for the return of students via the hybrid instructional model. Kindly refer to the Reopening Playbook for Parents, if you have not already done so. Please note that this document will continue to evolve and change as it is a living document and the guidance from county and state officials will likely evolve as well.

As always, continue to communicate with your child’s teacher and the school office at (619) 397-0103 should you have any questions?

New Kindergarten and New student registration will begin March 15, 2021

The 2021-22 new kindergarten/new student registration process, on the new online enrollment system, was scheduled to begin on March 3, 2021, however, due to technical delays in the final programming phase, we need to change the start date to March 15, 2021.  We apologize for the delay, but we want to ensure we have a successful transition to the new online enrollment registration process which will replace the paper packet enrollment process. **This is only for new students to McMillin. Residency verification for current students will take place at a later date.

Thanks for your patience.

Inner Explorer – Social Emotional Learning for Classrooms and Families

Every classroom in our school practices mindfulness and stress reduction techniques with the Inner Explorer program to enhance social-emotional learning. Focusing on mindful breathing and the awareness of thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations, the simple “just press play” program fosters skills such as improved focus, compassion, gratitude, and self-regulation as key elements in students’ continuous improvement.

Inner Explorer has advantages for families, too. The secular program is designed to be easy, requires no previous experience, and can be incorporated into any part of your day. Proven outcomes of daily practice include, but are not limited to:

  • Stress reduction
  • Better overall mental health and well-being
  • Improved awareness
  • Enhanced emotional regulation
  • Better academic and professional performance

Inner Explorer’s Tune In feature even allows me to share the lesson we hear in the classroom with you every day, bridging school to home. You can practice individually, together with your child/children, or children can practice mindfulness on their own. When I press “Play” in the classroom, Inner Explorer will notify you via automated email with a link to practice. The links do not expire, but you may only listen to each practice once. To opt in to Tune In, click on the link below. You will need to enter your name, email address, and phone number (optional).
