April is fast approaching! Our McMillin Military Committee has met and is planning various activities for the Month of the Military Child in April!

 

We would like to involve the whole school by providing them purple ribbons to wear in April and to participate in our Spirit Fridays!

Other activities for our Military Children and families in April include a Kick off breakfast with their family, a game day during their lunch time, a lunch picnic with their family during their lunch time, a special assembly and we will wrap it up with another Military Movie Night.

Please mark your calendars. Here are the dates:

Week 1 (Purple ribbons will be distributed on Monday to all and Purple bracelets to Military children.)

• Monday, 4/4/16 Muffins for the Military – Coffee and Muffins from 7:45 am to 8:10 am (Military Only)
• Thursday, 4/7/16 Special Assembly in the AM – Navy Parachute Team (All School)
• Thursday, 4/7/16 Special Assembly in the AM Follow Up (Military Only)
• Friday, 4/8/16 Purple Up! Wear purple day to support our Military Children (All School)

Week 2

• Monday, 4/11/16 Military Family Picnic during lunch (Military Only)
• Friday, 4/15/16 Red, White and Blue Day! Wear red, white and blue to support our Military Children (All School)

Week 3

• Monday, 4/18/16 Game Day during lunch in the auditorium (Military Only)
• Friday, 4/22/16 Camo Day! Wear camouflage to support our Military Children (All School)

Week 4

• Wednesday, 4/27/16 Family Military Movie Night (Military Only)
• Wednesday, 4/27/16 Military Special Assembly at 9:00 am – Challenge Coins (Military Only)
• Friday, 4/29/16 State Day! Wear any State gear to support our Military Children (All School)

2016 STEP Baby Drive Flyer-2

On April 4th the district will deliver bins to our school to help collect baby item donations for Support The Enlisted Project.  We will be helping junior enlisted families throughout Southern California.  The drive will end on April 15th and the district will pick up the bins for distribution to STEP.  Please see the attached flyer.

Our lost and found cart is full! It is placed outside adjacent to the front of the school. Please take a few moments this week to look through our Lost and Found to see if anything belongs to your child. You may be surprised. Thank you.

Please discuss crosswalk safety with your child. It was reported today that a few students crossed a crosswalk without waiting for a signal and almost caused an accident. Fortunately, they were able to cross safely. Here is a link to help you: Crosswalk Safety.

The McMillin Safety Committee worked on revising our School Safety Plan to ensure that students are safer before school. New before school procedures will start on Monday, January 25th 2016. Teachers will practice these new procedures with students next week from January 19^th to January 22nd.

Please read the following new procedures:

• These new procedures are for the entire school TK – 6^th Grade.
• Students should not be dropped off before 7:45 am unless they are enrolled in the YMCA.
• Only one gate will be open at the front of the school. All other gates at the front of the school will be locked.
• The back gate that opens up to the grass field will also be open.
• Students will now wait and line up in their fire drill lines at the black top. Students will no longer line up in front of the school.
• There will be supervision at the black top starting at 7:45 am.
• Parents may wait in line with their children. Students may not wait outside their classrooms.
• Students will be promptly picked up by the classroom teacher at 8:15 am.
• Students will be marked tardy if they are not in line by 8:15 am.

 Breakfast

• If students come through the front gate, then they will need to use the hallway to go to the snack tables. Breakfast is from 7:45 am to 8:05 am.
• If students come through the back gate, then they will need to use the hallway to go to the snack tables.
• Students will need to finish breakfast in time to walk to the back of the school and be in line by 8:15 am.

• Students will use the hallways and walk towards the back of the school to their classroom fire drill line.

Back gate

• Students will walk through the field and walk to their classroom fire drill line.

Rainy Day

• Students will walk to the auditorium and not to their classroom fire drill lines.

Donations 

Dear Families,

The Month of the Military Child (April) is fast approaching and our military appreciation committee is seeking restaurant and business donations from the community to honor our military children and families at an event for them in April.  Donation ideas include but are not limited to: pizzas, gift cards or other food items for a dinner and raffle prizes.
