This Week At McMillin

Beagle Bolt

The Beagle Bolt Jog-A-Thon Fundraiser is coming our way on November 10th!  This is our home-grown effort to help raise money for our school.  100% of the money raised will go to our PTA, which then will directly help your child with grade-level field trips, classroom supplies, books, and so much more! At this point, we are in need of donations to help motivate the students to raise money.  For every $25 raised, a student will get a raffle ticket to go in a prize drawing.  In the past, amazing families have donated: gift cards, movie tickets, bikes, ear buds, and so much more!  Any prize would be greatly appreciated.  Kindly have the prizes to your teacher by Friday, September 23.  Questions?  Feel free to contact Nora Martinez, 4th grade teacher, at nora.martinez@cvesd.org

The Literacy Connection

The number one determinant of a student’s academic success is the ability to read and write proficiently in standard English using academic language. Having strong literacy skills—reading, writing, listening, and speaking—is the gatekeeper to success in almost all content areas. Culturally and linguistically responsive teaching and learning addresses the development of literacy skills by focusing on two specific areas: academic literacy and academic language, something we continue to perfect here at McMillin.
